Whiskey the rescue pup lays in wait for his pet-momma, in the kitchen with his bro Sanford, eagerly awaiting her arrival from work. He's practicing his hypnotic-stare hoping she might accidentally drop treats on the floor while trying to step over him!
Waiting for Momma to walk through the kitchen...
Whiskey Chillin', 1 of 2 Doggie-Painting, Pastel & Copic on Canvas

"...his 'over the shoulder' look..."
"Whiskey Chillin'" is one of a two painting doggie-family portrait I made for their Human-Momma who sent me a cute picture of them both situating their bodies on the floor, almost as if they were laying in "innocent ambush" to get immediate treats upon her arrival home.
I really love Whiskey's expression in the photo. To me, he really adds to the whole spirit of the art with his "over the shoulder look," betraying both his cunning attention and yet leaving you with the sense that you're the one who inturrupted a deep conversation he was having with his doggie-bro, Sanford.
Which of course, will entail giving him treats, of course!
What supplies I used to paint "Whiskey Chillin'"
I painted this pet portrait of "Whiskey Chillin'" on stretched canvas, first starting out with pencil studies and then finishing those layers with my Staedtler Mars Lumograph pencils and CretaColor Aqua Monolith to capture as much of the soft impressions of the space. That was important because in the composition, two paintings had to hang on the wall and convey that they were in adjoining rooms, which was part of the original photo, and, to me, a major part of the "feel" I wanted to capture.
I finished the painting with my Caran 'd'ache Aqua Pastels, mixing them in various layers, and adding transparent layers of color midtones and highlights with Prismacolor and Copic Alcohol inks.
