Jake has just recovered from all the trials a Rescue Foster goes through: Visits to the vets for shots and neutering, and the biggie, his doggy-good-behavior workshop to make sure he's good around other dogs... Well this is his first day out, and he couldn't have made a better impression on the trail, looking like the ancient hunter he is!

"...a big day ahead!..."
Jakey got rescued from the city pound within the first year I had been helping with the Foster Rescues, and you could tell he had been through a lot from his previous life. That's the life before dogs end up in the pound. To make matters worse, then Foster Rescues have to go through a whole battery of checkups with the vet, shots, and be neutered or spayed. Then, they have to pass "social skills workshops" so they can be around other dogs.
He had a lot on his plate right from the start!

This portrait is from a picture I took of him on his first walk through a remote forest, completely off leash, finally away from all those things of his past. He's finally able to roam, to wander, and to really tap into his primal, ancestral doggie-skills that I think, he's been waiting his whole life to express!
Art materials I used to paint "Jake's Big Morning"
This portrait of Jake the Foster-Rescue is painted on a primed 5x7 canvas, which I originally was going to do in acrylics or watercolor, but decided. Iwanted a more textured feel that only colored pencils could provide. So I used my Caran d'ache Supracolors, the extremely versatile and buttery smooth colored pencils, to draw & simultaneously paint the layers of Jakey walking through the forest.
